16 & 17 6 09:
the girl visited a legal practice today with her mentor. this legal practice mainly does VLA-related
DHS work and it involves children in criminal and/or family -affected cases.
There came the time for reviewing matter files where the girl noted cases that will make her
shed tears. There was a case involving seeking protection order for a two year old baby and reading the nature of the case was certainly heart-wrenching. So after completing the site visit, the girl went away to write up her report before meeting with the legal-eagle to finalise the report.
Next day, the girl was initially meant to meet the legal-eagle in the afternoon at the legal-eagle's office. Slightly after lunch time, the legal-eagle called to re-schedule the meeting place to the children's court instead.
In all eagerness to finalise her report, the girl made her way to the address at 477 little lonsdale street.
at the children's court building, the girl went through security checks and made her way to the second level of the building. there she met with the legal-eagle and what she noted while waiting was different types of people i.e. families that appeared to be from the low-income group
waiting for court attendance. the legal-eagle told the girl that there is more drama during the mornings at this children's court building and the flow builds up throughout the day. the legal-eagle further admitted that there were times where legal-eagle needed kleenex for some of the matters
the legal-eagle undertakes.
For all that is worth, the girl is grateful that her work allows her the flexibility to meet with different
people and to experience work outside of the traditional office space. to add, this was the first exit interview the girl undertook without the presence of her mentor. the girl feels blessed and pray that her stamina and passion for what she is doing would remain strong for a while longer.
